A great place to visit year roundLocated just outside of Portland Oregon, Island Cove RV Park is situated on Sauvie Island, the largest fresh water island in the northern hemisphere.
Sauvie Island has a rich and active agricultural heritage that has been preserved through careful land management practices. The Island contains many large farms and refuges where crops and wildlife thrive. Island Cove RV Park is flanked by over 12,000 acres that has been set aside as a wildlife preserve and is home to more than 250 species of birds, 57 species of mammals, 28 species of fish and over 23 species of amphibians. From June through the end of October the island turns into an agricultural wonderland as dozens of farms open their fields to U-pickers. You can fill your basket with the much sought after Oregon berries, fresh flowers, tomatoes, corn, pumpkins and everything in between. The island is a favorite destination of cyclists, bird watchers, anglers, hunters and naturalists of all types looking to experience the beauty of an unspoiled wildlife refuge, just minutes from Portland. Island Cove RV Park is conveniently located close to the Gilbert River public boat launch and miles of beautiful sandy beaches, including the well-known “Clothing Optional” Collins Beach. Anglers start arriving in late January seeking the famed Spring Chinook run and stay through the fall as Steelhead, Sturgeon and the summer Salmon seasons open. October marks the beginning of the migration as millions of birds rest on their way south for the winter. Bird watchers and hunters co-exist in segregated areas of the refuges and share in the wonder of the migration. The island has a vibrant and active nightlife, with Great Horned Owls, croaking frogs, and yelping coyotes singing three part harmonies. However if that is not what you had in mind, nearby Portland offers world-class cuisine and a thriving art and music scene. |
